Two more offices opened in India 21-Jun-2010

Ben Line Agencies is pleased to announce the opening of two new offices in India. These new offices in the Ports of Cochin and Haldia brings the total number of offices that Ben Line Agencies operate in India to 13 and further demonstrates our commitment to partnering with our principals in India, one of the world’s fastest growing economies.

The Port of Haldia  is a major seaport and industrial city in West Bengal, India. Located about 50 kilometers southwest of Kolkata, it lies near the mouth of one of the distributaries of the Ganges, the Hugli River.

Haldia, which is the replica watches fourth biggest port in India, contains 15 berths with total length of 3.3km and alongside depths from 8.5 to 11 metres and is currently being developed as a trade port for bulk cargoes serving Kolkata.

The port imports fertilizers, food grain, sugar, coking coal, petroleum and metallurgical coke, soda ash, iron and steel, machinery, scrap and general cargoes and exports food grains, thermal coal, petroleum coke, iron and steel, machinery and other general cargoes.

The Port of Cochin (Kochi) is an important seaport on the Arabian Sea in southwest India's Kerala State. Located about 565 kilometers southwest of the Chennai and about 930 kilometers south-southeast of Mumbai, this deep-water port has road, rail, air, and water connections with the region's hinterlands and other major Indian cities.

In 2008 the port handled 254k TEUs, 11.6 million tons of liquid cargo, 0.85 million tons of dry bulk cargoes (coal, rock phosphate, potash, etc) and 139k tons of breakbulk cargoes (soda ash, timber logs, etc), and has a dry dock facility available for hire.

At present, the port is creating the infrastructure and amenities needed for the proposed Special Economic Zones (SEZ).  The port’s new international container terminal will be located in one of these SEZs. The new state-of-the-art facility, with a target handling capacity of 3 million TEUs,  will have a 1800 metre long berth with permissible draught of 14.5 meters that can accommodate vessels up to 8000 TEU capacity.

Ben Line Agencies has been providing vessel husbandry, cargo operations and protective agency services at both these strategic ports for some time now.  However,  Ben Line Agencies has decided to invest further in its office infrastructure by opening these new offices and recruiting high calibre staff to ensure that it continues to provide the highest possible level of service to its principals at all the key ports across India.
