The pioneering Ben Line spirit has been the driving factor behind our success for over 150 years.
In 1990, for example, Ben Line Containers supported and provided numerous services for a mammoth expedition travelling 1200 miles up the Yangtze River by hovercraft, to Qumarlei and Tuotuoheyan. The journey started in Southampton, where Ben Line Containers transported 2 hovercrafts and a 40-foot container to Hong Kong. From there they were moved by rail 1000 miles north-west to Chengdu, and then by road to Dengke, to commence the river quest.
The initial phase aimed to establish medical, engineering and scientific projects far into this untouched region, and at the same time to contribute to the PRC’s UNICEF sponsored child immunisation programme. The secondary phase involved pushing on to finding the source of the Yangtze, in the Geladandong region.
At the time, this adventure was hailed ‘the hovercraft equivalent of climbing Everest’. This spirit of pushing the boundaries and being at the heart of new challenges still runs within the company today as new offices/regions are being continually branched into, and served by Ben Line’s expanding network.
