UPDATE - Indonesian Cabotage Law 09-May-2011
Further to the ongoing discussions and implementation of Indonesian cabotage regulations. There has been much debate in the maritime industry regarding sectors that would not be able to maintain operations should foreign flagged vessels be prohibited from operating in Indonesian waters, specifically the Oil/Gas and Cable sectors.
 
The below ruling issued by Seacom outlines the vessels and timeframe for exemption. Subject to availability, Indonesian flagged vessels will continue to be given preference, but foreign flagged vessels will also be allowed to operate on a case by case basis.
