Port busier than 2010 but volume slides compared to July 2011.
THROUGHPUT at the port of Shanghai, the world’s busiest container port, was up 6.2% on year in August, according to the Shanghai International Port Group.
The port recorded 2.8m teu of containers handled in August, up from 2.6m teu in August 2010. Volume was down 3.1% from 2.9m teu in July, but was up 7.2% compared to June. In the year to date this takes Shanghai’s container throughput to 21m teu, up 10% compared with the same period in 2010.
